How to Play

1

The Bidding Phase

Look at your 13 cards and predict how many "tricks" you can win. Your bid is combined with your partner's to set your team's goal for the round.

2

Spades are Trumps

The Spade suit is always the trump. A Spade card can beat any card from another suit. However, you can only lead a Spade after they have been "broken."

3

Follow the Suit

You must follow the lead suit if you have it. If you don't, you can play a Spade to trump the trick or discard any other card to get rid of it.

4

Scoring and Bags

Meet your bid to score points. If you take more tricks than you bid, you collect "bags." Collecting 10 bags results in a 100-point penalty!

Common Questions

What happens if we miss our bid?
If your team fails to win at least as many tricks as you bid collectively, you are "Set" and lose points equal to 10 times your bid.

When can I lead Spades?
You can lead Spades only after someone has played a Spade on a trick where they couldn't follow suit, or if you have nothing but Spades left in your hand.
