Superior Canfield

The Open Challenge • 13-Card Reserve • Skill over Luck
Superior Canfield Solitaire Game

Superior Canfield removes the mystery and replaces it with pure strategy. By making all cards in the 13-card reserve visible from the very beginning, this variant turns the "Demon" into a game of careful calculation and foresight.

How to Play

1

Full Visibility

Like classic Canfield, you have a 13-card Reserve pile. However, in Superior Canfield, the entire pile is spread out so you can see exactly which cards are coming next.

2

Foundation Lead

One card is dealt to the first foundation to set the starting rank. All four foundations must begin with this rank (wrapping from King to Ace as needed).

3

Tableau Sequencing

Build the four tableau columns downward in alternating colors. Sequences can wrap around (Ace on King) to keep your moves fluid.

4

Stock Rules

Draw from the stock three cards at a time. With unlimited passes, the key to winning is how you use the visible reserve to unblock the tableau.

Common Questions

Is it easier than classic Canfield?
Yes. Because you have perfect information about the reserve cards, the win rate is significantly higher for players who take the time to plan their sequences.

Why is it called "Superior"?
The name reflects the "Superior" visibility of the reserve cards, shifting the game from a test of luck to a test of pure logical skill.
