How to Play

1

The Stepped Layout

Using two decks (104 cards), cards are dealt into nine tableau columns in a "stepped" manner, with one card in the first, two in the second, and so on.

2

Alternating Color Builds

In the tableau, you must build sequences in descending order and alternating colors. For example, a Black 7 must be placed on a Red 8.

3

Eight Foundation Piles

Your ultimate goal is to move all cards to the eight foundation piles. These must be built up by suit starting from Ace all the way to King.

4

Draw and Re-deal

When moves in the tableau are exhausted, draw from the stock pile. Steps typically allows for one or more re-deals, but careful planning is still required!

Common Questions

How many cards can I move at once?
You can move any sequence of cards that is properly built in descending order and alternating color. Moving large stacks is often necessary to uncover blocked cards.

Is Steps harder than standard Solitaire?
Yes, because it uses two decks and more tableau columns. It requires more spatial awareness and long-term planning than a single-deck game like Klondike.
