Raglan Solitaire

Raglan Solitaire is a high-solvability variant that rewards deep thinking over luck. Unlike many games, Raglan is "open"—meaning every card is dealt face-up from the start. With six reserve cards to aid your movement and a distinct tableau structure, Raglan is a pure test of your ability to plan several moves ahead.

How to Play

1

Study the Open Tableau

All cards are dealt face-up into 9 tableau columns. The first column has one card, the second has two, and so on, up to 9. The Aces are moved to foundations immediately upon dealing.

2

Utilize the Reserve

Raglan features 6 reserve cards that are available for play at any time. These "outs" are essential for uncovering buried cards in the tableau or completing sequences.

3

Build the Columns

Tableau piles are built down in alternating colors. You can only move the top card of a pile or a reserve card. Empty columns can be filled by any card.

4

Complete the Foundations

Build the four foundation piles up by suit from Ace to King. The game is won when all cards have been moved to their respective foundation piles.

Raglan Briefing

How is Raglan different from King Albert?
While similar, Raglan begins with Aces already in the foundations and has a slightly different tableau count (ending in 9 columns), making it generally easier and more satisfying to solve.

What is the win rate?
Because it is an "open" game, Raglan has a very high win rate for skilled players who take the time to analyze the board before making their first move.
