How to Play

1

The Clock Face

Twelve foundation piles are arranged in a circle, representing the hours of a clock. They start with pre-determined cards (e.g., 9 of Hearts at 12:00, 10 of Spades at 1:00).

2

Build the Tableau

The remaining cards are dealt into eight tableau columns. You can build these down regardless of suit, helping you uncover blocked cards.

3

Sequence by Suit

Foundation piles must be built up by suit. The goal is for each pile to end with the card value that matches its clock position (e.g., Queens at 12:00, Jacks at 11:00).

4

Solve the Circle

The game is won when all 52 cards are moved into the foundations, completing the full sequence of the grandfather clock's face.

Common Questions

Is it harder than regular Solitaire?
It requires a different type of spatial thinking. Because foundations start at different values, you have to keep track of multiple "goal" sequences at once.

What happens if I get stuck?
In Grandfather's Clock, the layout is open, meaning all cards are eventually visible. Most games are winnable if you plan your tableau shifts carefully!
