How to Play

1

The Setup

Using two decks (104 cards), 40 cards are dealt face-up into 10 columns of 4 cards each. These are the "forty thieves."

2

Build by Suit

Cards in the tableau must be built down in the same suit (e.g., a 9 of Hearts can only be placed on a 10 of Hearts).

3

Limited Moves

Only the top card of each column is available for play. You cannot move sequences—every card must be moved individually.

4

Eight Foundation Piles

The goal is to build 8 foundation piles from Ace to King by suit. The stock pile can be used, but only one card at a time.

Common Questions

Why is this game so hard?
Building by suit and the inability to move sequences makes it much stricter than FreeCell or Klondike. Strategy and luck must work together!

Is it also called "Napoleon at St. Helena"?
Yes. Legend has it that Napoleon Bonaparte played this game during his exile, contributing to its reputation as a game for patient thinkers.
