How to Play

1

The Epic Setup

Four full decks (208 cards) are used. The tableau consists of 16 columns, each dealt 4 cards face-up. This leaves 144 cards in the stock pile.

2

16 Foundations

Build 16 foundation piles up by suit, starting from Ace through King. Because there are four decks, you will build four complete sets for each of the four suits.

3

Tableau Movement

Build tableau piles down by suit (e.g., a Club 7 on a Club 8). In this strict variant, you can only move single cards at a time. Sequence moving is not allowed.

4

Stock & Empty Spaces

Deal cards from the stock one at a time. Empty tableau spaces are vital—they can be filled by any single card to help you untangle the massive columns.

The Master's Handbook

How long does a game take?
A typical game of 4-Deck Forty Thieves can take 20 to 45 minutes. It is a slow-burn strategy game that rewards patience and careful observation.

Building Constraint:
Remember: Both tableau and foundations are built strictly by suit. No alternating colors here! This is what makes the game a pure logistical challenge.
