How to Play

1

The Eight-Column Deal

Using two 52-card decks, 40 cards are dealt face-up into eight columns of five cards each. The remaining cards form the stock.

2

Building by Suit

Unlike standard Klondike, you build your tableau columns downward in the SAME suit (e.g., place a 7 of Hearts on an 8 of Hearts). Only one card can be moved at a time.

3

Eight Foundation Stacks

Move your Aces to the foundations as they appear. Build them up by suit from Ace to King. With two decks, you have eight total foundation piles to fill.

4

The Re-deal Bonus

Draw cards one-by-one from the stock to the waste. If you get stuck after the first pass, Forty and Eight allows you one re-deal of the stock pile.

Common Questions

How does this differ from Forty Thieves?
Forty Thieves uses ten columns of four cards, while Forty and Eight uses eight columns of five cards. Most importantly, Forty and Eight allows a re-deal, making it much more winnable.

Can I move groups of cards?
No. In Forty and Eight, you can only move one card at a time. To move a sequence, you must have empty tableau spaces to use as temporary maneuvering room.
