How to Play

1

The Eight-Column Deal

A standard 52-card deck is dealt into eight tableau columns. All cards are dealt face-up, meaning there are no surprises—just strategy.

2

Building Downward

Build your columns in descending order (e.g., place a 7 on an 8). In Canister, the suit and color do NOT matter for tableau movement.

3

Move Sequences

You can move whole sequences or parts of sequences, provided they are in the correct descending order. This makes reorganizing your board highly flexible.

4

Foundation Goals

The goal remains classic: move all cards to the four foundation piles, building up by suit from Ace to King.

Common Questions

Wait, suits don't matter?
Correct! In the tableau (the eight columns), you can place any 9 on any 10, regardless of whether it's Hearts, Spades, Red, or Black. However, to win, you must still build the foundations by suit.

Is it easier than Klondike?
The win rate is much higher because of the open layout and flexible building rules. It is less about luck and much more about your ability to plan and organize.
