How to Play

1

The Toad Reserve

Twenty cards are dealt face-down to form the "Toad" or reserve pile. Only the top card is visible and available for play to the foundations or tableau.

2

The Eight Foundations

One card is dealt to the first foundation. All seven other foundations must start with the same rank. Build upward by suit, wrapping from King back to Ace.

3

Tableau Building

Build the eight tableau columns downward in the SAME suit. You can move single cards or correctly ordered sequences of the same suit.

4

Stock and Redeal

Draw from the stock one card at a time. In American Toad, you typically get one redeal, giving you a second chance to look for those critical foundation cards.

Common Questions

How does this differ from standard "Toad"?
American Toad is played with two decks and features a larger reserve. The building rules are stricter (building by suit) compared to some other Toad variants.

Is the win rate high?
American Toad is considered a high-difficulty game. Success requires careful management of the reserve and efficient use of the redeal.
