How to Play

1

Choose the Trump

Euchre uses a 24-card deck (9s through Aces). In the bidding phase, players decide which suit will be "Trump"—the suit that beats all others.

2

Know Your Bowers

The Jack of the trump suit is the "Right Bower" (highest card), and the Jack of the same color suit is the "Left Bower" (second highest).

3

Win the Tricks

Players must follow the lead suit if possible. The highest card of the lead suit—or the highest trump—wins the trick. You need 3 tricks to win a hand!

4

Score Big

Winning 3 or 4 tricks earns your team 1 point. Winning all 5 tricks (a "March") earns 2 points. If the makers fail to win 3 tricks, they are "Euchred" and the opponents get 2 points!

What cards are in a Euchre deck?
Euchre is played with 24 cards: the 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A of each suit. This makes the game much faster and more unpredictable than standard 52-card games.

What is a "Left Bower"?
It's the Jack of the suit that is the same color as the trump suit. For example, if Hearts are trump, the Jack of Diamonds is the Left Bower and is considered a Heart for that hand!
