How to Play

1

Roll and Move

Each turn begins with rolling two dice. You move your checkers based on the numbers shown, traveling in a horseshoe path toward your home board.

2

Hit and Bar

If you land on a square with only one opponent checker (a "blot"), you hit it! The piece is moved to the bar, and your opponent must re-enter it before moving others.

3

Secure Points

Landing two or more of your own checkers on a point "secures" it. Your opponent cannot land on or touch that point, creating a strategic wall.

4

The Bear Off

Once all 15 of your checkers reach your home board, you can begin "bearing them off." The first player to remove all checkers from the board wins!

Common Questions

What is a "Gammon" or "Backgammon"?
A Gammon occurs if you win before your opponent bears off any checkers (double points). A Backgammon is if they still have pieces in your home board (triple points)!

How do doubles work?
Rolling a double (e.g., two 5s) means you get to move four times instead of two! This is the fastest way to turn the tide of the race.
